To create awareness among faculty and students of Engineering and Science courses about various facets of entrepreneurship as an alternative career option as also to highlight the merits of pursuing such an option.

Outcome/Achievements Aspiring Entrepreneurship students (79+80Nos.) obtained awareness about the business, and now they will be able to

  1. Distinguish the type of business.
  2. Conduct the technical, financial and market analysis for their business.
  3. Analyse and overcome the threats and challenges in the business to earn profit

  2. Role of NSTEDB-DST, Govt. of India, New Delhi and EDII, Ahmedabad, in initiating the Entrepreneurial activities among science and technology background students to establish a start-up/technology-driven business in near future and in providing the financial support for the same.

About the event

With a view to expose students as well as faculty of academic institutions, offering degree/diploma courses in S&T, to entrepreneurship as an alternative career, Entrepreneurship Awareness Camps (EACs) are conducted by nodal agencies in each State/Union Territory of the country. The implementing agency is usually either an educational institution or a professional body specializing in entrepreneurship development.

Each Camp, of 3 days duration, is conducted in the premises of an academic institution and aims at creating awareness among students about various facets of entrepreneurship while highlighting the merits of pursuing such a career option. In each EAC, about 75 students are exposed to different aspects of entrepreneurship, including opportunity guidance, services offered by agencies of support system etc.

Business Plan Competition - 18th January 2018

Outcome/Achievements

The submitted business plans were reviewed and the selected teams were given opportunities to sell their ideas and products in the event “Bazaar”. The students were able to

  1. Select the products by understanding the needs of customers in particular locality.
  2. Advertise the products to the buying community.
  3. Fix the price for their product.
  4. Calculate the profit and loss of their sales.
  5. Sell their ideas which would be developed as products based on the customer needs.

About the programme To monitor the progress of the projects 16th September 2017, 13th October 2017, 18th Nov 2017, 16th Dec 2017, 20th Jan 2018, 17th Feb 2018 & 17th March 2018.

Outcome/Achievements

  1. Quality and status of the projects were improved after fruitful discussions made in the meetings.
  2. The student's teams were appropriately given suggestions to complete the prototype model for commercialization.
  3. The student's teams were educated to procure the components / devices of different specifications / configurations for necessities related with development of different versions of products.

  1. One of the products developed by our student's team, has won the first prize in Falling Walls Lab India 2018 contest. Further the student has been invited to present his idea at Falling Walls Global Conference 2018 at Berlyn, Germany during November 2018.

Falling Walls Lab – Veera Shanthi Ram M - Breaking the Wall of Inefficacy in Grading Coconuts

Mr.M.Veera Shanthi Ram and G.S.Rahul of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering have an essence of developing standardized methods to grade the coconut. They developed a prototype model of a product “Coconut Qualifier” which is supported by NewGen IEDC and NSTEDB, DST, Govt. of India with funding of 2.5 Lakhs.

As an integral part they applied for the contest in Falling Wall Lab. Sixteen finalist from across the country selected through a rigorous process and presented their top notch research and entrepreneurial ideas on water problem, climate change and energy conservation as a part of the falling walls Lab Contest hosted by the Germany academic agency DAAD and German House for research and Innovation New Delhi at Jadavpur University, Kolkata on 7th April 2018.

Veera Shanthi Ram from Department of Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering, National Engineering College, Kovilpatti, was adjudged the winner of the contest. He provided the technological solution for quality check of coconuts for the food industry especially coconut based products. He will compete with Falling Walls Lab winners from across the world at the global Lab finale that takes place in Berlin on 8 November 2018, and also gets a ticket to the prestigious Falling Walls Conference on 9 November where leaders from science, industry and policy-making meet. The trip to Berlin is financed by the DWIH - German House for Research and Innovation New Delhi. This initiative is supported by the Federal Foreign Office, Germany.

About the event

Each Camp, of 3 days duration, is conducted in the premises of an academic institution and aims at creating awareness among students about various facets of entrepreneurship while highlighting the merits of pursuing such a career option.
